How To Select the Right Modular Ramp Kit

Step 1: Select Ramp Length
First, select the length of the ramp that you will need. According to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the ramp length standard is a 1:12 ratio or a 4.8-degree slope. This ratio means that for every inch of elevation, you need 12 inches or 1 foot of ramp length. Therefore, a rise of 6 inches from the sidewalk to the entrance requires a ramp length of 6 feet. A rise of 10 inches requires a ramp length of 10 feet. Some local ordinances or city codes may require different specifications, so be sure to check for the correct local standards.
Gateway 3G Ramp lengths are selectable in 1-foot increments from 3 to 10 feet. Each ramp comes with an attached transition plate on each end that is adjustable to fit the adjacent surface. A raised safety edge on each side of the ramp helps to keep wheelchairs and scooters from veering off of the ramp. Add optional handrails for additional safety. (See below for handrail information.)
Step 2: Select Handrail Type
On Step 2, there are three options. Select between No Handrail, Two-Line, or Vertical Picket Handrail.
- The No Handrail option is only viable for short ramp lengths and for users who do not need to use handrail assistance.
- The Two-Line Handrail offers two horizontal safety bars that are 10.5 inches apart. The upper handrail is 34.5 inches high from the deck of the ramp. It provides safety by keeping the wheelchair or scooter and the mobility patient within the confines of the ramp. It also offers stability as a handrail for non-wheelchair users of the ramp. This option is less expensive than the Vertical Picket Handrail option described below.
- The Vertical Picket Handrail offers an upscale appearance with a "picket-fence" style. Pickets are spaced every 4 inches and provide an added level of safety for small children and pets.
What Are Gateway Modular Ramps?
EZ-ACCESS Gateway Wheelchair Ramps are durable scooter ramps for mobility patients. The surface of the ramp is solid metal with an extruded slip-resistant surface to reduce risks. Gateway ramps are lightweight and portable, allowing them to be used for temporary access or as semi-permanent home access. That means when you move from one home to another, your ramp can go with you. All-metal construction offers strength, supporting up to 1,000 pounds. These ramps withstand outdoor weather and seasonal changes. They last for life and come with a lifetime warranty.
The ramp's design supports scooters, wheelchairs, or walkers. The ramp utilizes a one-piece design, so there is no assembly or seams. If you select handrails, they are pre-assembled and attached to the ramp with minimal tools. Ground transitioning plates on both ends of the ramp make it easy to roll on and roll off. These plates automatically adjust to the angle of the adjacent surface. The manufacturer, EZ-ACCESS, makes this product in the USA.

Gateway 3G Ramps offer quick and easy installation and removal. They have a weight capacity of 1,000 pounds to support most wheelchairs and scooters, and they meet all ADA specifications.
Vitality Medical carries many wheelchair ramps from EZ-ACCESS, including Pathway Ramps, Transition Modular Entry Ramps, Trifold Ramp, and the Portable Suitcase Ramp.
