No, the inner cannula cannot be used with Shiley's fenestrated trach tubes. The fenestrated trach tubes are compatible with the Shiley Fenestrated Disposable Inner Cannula.

Is this inner cannula compatible with Shiley's Extended-Length Tubes?

No, the XLT tubes require an XLT Extended-Length Disposable Inner Cannula.

I'm used to the traditional Shiley tracheostomy tube, not the newer flexible model. Are the inner cannulas different?

Yes, there are some key differences. The updated inner cannula is part of Shiley's flex portfolio of tracheostomy products. Compared to the legacy products, these trach tubes allow for reduced insertion force and increased airflow around the outer cannula.

Like the tubes they are used with, the inner cannulas come in an expanded range of sizes. They are made with soft, non-DEHP material instead of the more rigid PVC material of the previous cannula. Securing the inner cannula no longer requires heavy pressure, pinching, or twisting, making placement easier for those who cannot perform those motions with their hands.
