Who Uses This Product? Individuals who have open or chronic wounds and need a way to encourage healing.
Why They Love This Product: The dressing absorbs wound exudate from open wounds. It contours to the wound bed and creates the best environment possible for wound healing. The dressing contains Hydrofiber Technology that forms a gel as it absorbs fluids, which then locks the moisture away from the wound. It also contains ionic silver, which has antimicrobial properties and keeps harmful bacteria from forming to help prevent infection.
Aquacel Ag Foam Wound Dressing Overview
The Aquacel Ag Foam Wound Dressing is designed for open and exuding wounds. It contains Hydrofiber Technology that turns to gel when it comes into contact with wound fluids, trapping the moisture. The gel helps provide the wound with an environment that encourages healing. The bandage also contains ionic silver, which has antimicrobial properties that keep bacteria from spreading. It is also waterproof to be an effective primary dressing.
Layers
The Aquacel Ag Adhesive Foam Dressing has four levels:

- Waterproof top layer - permits the evaporation of excess moisture and also protects against bacteria. This layer allows patients to shower/bathe with the bandage in place.
- Foam pad - adds optimal comfort and fluid absorption.
- Hydrofiber layer - turns to gel upon contact with fluids and helps create an optimal wound-healing environment. Its also infused with ionic silver to control bacterial growth.
- Silicone adhesive - gently secures the bandage to the skin; skin-friendly and easy to remove.
The Aquacel Ag Non-Adhesive Foam Dressing does not include the adhesive layer. Instead, it will require a secondary dressing such as gauze or a bandage wrap to keep it in place. Aquacel Ag Foam Non-Adhesive Dressings is used when patients have an allergy to adhesives.
What Is Hydrofiber?
The Aquacel Ag Foam Adhesive Dressing includes Hydrofiber Technology, which is an absorbent material that turns into a gel when it comes into contact with fluids. The gel creates the perfect environment for wounds to heal. It helps to minimize the possibility of cross-infection and also removes "dead space" where harmful bacteria may form. Combined with ionic silver, these particular dressings provide both speedy healing and antimicrobial activity.
