BD Insyte Autoguard Shielded IV Catheter Overview
The Insyte Autoguard Shielded IV Catheter is designed to increase healthcare provider efficiency and safety while reducing patient discomfort and phlebitis.
The catheter features a unique design to improve outcomes. The design minimizes the risk of blood exposure, increases first-stick success, and reduces accidental needlesticks.
The Insyte Autoguard IV is manufactured from a specialized kink-resistant biomaterial that softens within the vein. This lowers the risk of phlebitis and increases dwell time potential.
Becton Dickinson's Instaflash technology promotes first-stick success. The push-button needle retraction substantially reduces the risk of accidental needle sticks.
The Insyte catheter is available in a variety of gauge sizes.

Blood Control Technology Option
During insertion of an IV, blood can occasionally leak or drip out, which can be messy and time-consuming to clean. The Insyte Autoguard IV Catheter technology prevents leakage, reducing blood exposure and minimizing cleanup time.
Blood will enter the flash chamber when the BD Insyte Autoguard Shielded IV Catheter is inserted. The chamber can be detached from the catheter and the needle retracted. The catheter provides both the seal and entrance for the connection. No venous compression is necessary while the practitioner activates the safety mechanism and prepares the connection. Blood will remain in the catheter, but can't escape to provide an easy, leak-free connection to the extension.
The BD Insyte is designed to provide superior clinician safety. The push-button needle retraction system helps to prevent needle sticks and incidental blood spills. Once retracted, the entire length of the needle is sheathed and may be safely disposed of in a sharps receptacle.
IV Placement and Pressure
- No venous compression required
- Advanced blood containment system to prevent blood contact
- Built-in needlestick protection
