Overview
The Aspen Summit 456 TLSO Thoracic Lumbar Sacral Orthosis is an adjustable brace worn by a patient following back surgery to promote healing. This low profile back brace boosts the lower back to model correct posture. Structural reinforcement components are positioned within pockets in order to limit the patient's range of motion in the thoracic, lumbar, and sacral vertebrae. Supportive aluminum is found in the back support and shoulder straps to add balance and reduce pressure. All of the structural components can be manipulated by heat to mold and bend or cut by scissors to trim as needed in order to conform to the individual patient's condition and anatomy.
Patients not requiring structural reinforcements will still benefit from the Aspen Summit TLSO and find the brace to be very comfortable and supportive. This is because the outside, anterior panels overlap to create midline support. The innovative FlexTabs provide increased comfort as the panels conform to the back and distribute pressure. Customized compression is also obtained using the side pull tabs. This increases blood circulation in the injured region to promote healing to these tissues. Aspen integrated these features to ensure patient compliance and prevent re-injury.
The physician or assistant will fit the adjustable TLSO brace to the patient. The telescoping shoulder straps give ample torso height and the circumferential waist adjustability fits waist sizes 26 to 60 inches. Waist sizes up to 70 inches will need the extension panel. The Sure Slot holes will ensure that the belt stays in place. Having one universal size will help patients get the support they need but is also helpful for hospitals and clinics when managing inventory. Summit 456 Instructions
Application
The belt sizing accommodates waist sizes from 26 to 60 inches and up to 70 inches with the purchase of the extension panel. Note that the sizing is two inches longer than standard pant sizing. Select the adjustment hole size located on the side of the back panel and the Sure Slot will lock it into place. The back panel is malleable to allow the physician to modify the contour in order to fit the patient's anatomy. Once the shape is achieved, center the panel on the lower back. Overlap the ends so that the hook material grips the opposite side loop. The ends may angle to get the best fit.
Adjustment
Vertical height of the posterior adjustment strap should rest at C7 or two inches below the shirt. On each side, slip the thumb into the pull tabs and extend up and away from the body to get the desired compression. Place the hook side of the tabs down into the loop material to maintain that compression level. Adjust shoulder straps to the length needed. Fasten and tighten the center chest buckle to secure the shoulder straps.
Cleaning
Handwash brace in water and mild soap. Rinse the brace thoroughly and pat out any excess moisture before air drying. Do not place in a washing machine or dryer and do not add bleach.
