TheraBond 3D Antimicrobial Contact Systems with SilverTak Technology Barrier is a multi-layer dressing that has an antimicrobial barrier lined with silver while having a high level of absorbency for wounds with exudate and excess fluid. In between the top and the contact layers, the composite dressing has unique struts that pulls the fluid away from the wound and reduces the chances of maceration. The flexible nylon base of the dressing is flexible and able to conform to the various contours of the body, while still providing coverage to the surface of the wound.
The TheraBond Silver Dressing has silver lining on the nylon fabric, giving it antimicrobial benefits. Upon contact, the dressing instantly starts working to kill any pathogens, killing most within fifteen minutes. The silver is effective for up to two weeks and pending the amount of exudate, can be left in place for this span of time. Leaving the dressing in place reduces trauma to the skin and wound and decreases healing time. The TheraBond Dressing reduces the pain of application as it doesn't sting like other disinfectants.
How Silver Works
Silver Dressings are often recommended by medical professionals for its antimicrobial abilities, especially in wounds with heavy exudate. The silver is ineffective until it comes in contact with the wound fluid. Once coming into contact with fluid, the silver ions disperse, colliding with cell walls of bacteria. This causes the cell to rupture causing the death of the bacteria. Silver is also able to bind to the enzymes of the cell. This interrupts the bacteria cell's ability to process the nutrients it feeds off of, restricting growth. Lastly, silver ions interrupt the cell's replication process, reducing the spreading of infection in the wound.
How to Apply
Properly cleanse the wound- including the removal of dead tissue. Saturate TheraBond 3D with water, then wring out so it is damp, not wet. Place the dressing sheet directly on wound with the textured side down. Cover with absorbent secondary dressing such as gauze. Change outer dressing as needed due to wound fluid. Change the Antimicrobial Contact TheraBond 3D dressing every two weeks as needed until wound has healed.
